Newly released financial data indicates that users of OnlyFans, a platform known for its adult content, spent a significant sum of money on its services in 2022.
OnlyFans subscribers spent R104.2 billion on adult content in 2022
The findings, outlined in a report from Fenix International, shed light on the platform’s financial performance and its impact on the adult entertainment industry.
According to the report, OnlyFans subscribers collectively spent a substantial $5.6 billion (R104.2 billion) on adult content throughout the fiscal year that ended in November 2022.
This expenditure highlights the significant demand for adult entertainment within the digital sphere. Interestingly, creators on the platform were able to retain 80% of their earnings from these transactions.
Comparing year-on-year statistics, OnlyFans experienced a 16% surge in user spending on its platform, with 2021’s total of nearly $4.5 billion (R83.8 billion) showing a noticeable increase.
The report also revealed that OnlyFans saw a remarkable increase in its user base, with a 27% rise in the number of users, totalling approximately 238.8 million.
This trend extended to the creators as well, with the registered creators count escalating by an impressive 47%, reaching a total of 3.18 million.
Of the net revenue generated by OnlyFans in the 2022 fiscal year, $1.09 billion (R20.3 billion), the geographical distribution of funds showed that 67% came from the United States, 15% from Europe and the UK, and 18% from other parts of the world.
This insight illustrates the platform’s global appeal and its ability to attract users and revenue from various regions.
OnlyFans has positioned itself as a “creator first” platform, focusing on the well-being of its content creators and striving to offer a secure environment for its users.
The company has articulated its intentions to leverage this commitment as a foundation for further revenue growth, profitability, and brand development in the future. This strategy aims to sustain the platform’s success in the evolving digital landscape.
The report comes on the heels of a noteworthy shift in OnlyFans’ policy. In August 2021, the platform initially announced its intention to ban adult content, a decision met with strong backlash from content creators who relied on explicit content for their livelihoods.
However, following substantial criticism and pushback, OnlyFans ultimately reversed its decision, allowing adult content to remain on the platform.
