A tragic accident occurred on the set of Marvel Studios’ upcoming television series Wonder Man this week as a crew member lost his life in a devastating fall at Radford Studio Centre just outside of Los Angeles.
Here’s what we know about the ‘Wonder Man’ Marvel accident
The incident, which did not occur during filming, involved a rigger who tragically fell from a catwalk onto a stage below.
The crew member has been identified as 41-year-old Juan Carlos Osorio of Temple City, California.
Despite the absence of active production at the time, Osorio was engaged in his duties on the set, a factor that could play a crucial part in the rigger’s reaction to the on-duty death.
Marvel Studios has expressed its condolences and emphasised its support for the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident,” a Marvel representative said in a statement quoted by BBC News.
The loss of Osorio casts a sombre tone over Wonder Man, a series that Marvel fans have eagerly anticipated.
Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Simon Williams, the narrative follows a stuntman turned superhero, blending action with the glamour and grit of Hollywood.
While deaths and serious injuries are rare in film and TV production, they can present a legal quagmire for production houses. One can only think of the Alec Baldwin saga as a recent example.
Wonder Man is set to add a new chapter to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), expanding its already vast tapestry of superhero lore. Simon Williams, portrayed by Abdul-Mateen II, is thrust into the superhero realm with newfound powers, navigating the challenges of both the film industry and his heroic duties.
Although the series’ release date remains unannounced, anticipation continues to build for what promises to be a compelling addition to the Disney+ lineup.
