Waking up to the news that Jay-Z, Hip-Hop’s first billionaire, was on Instagram Live can cause palpitations. Also, it’s quite hard to believe but we have empirical proof of this.
Was Jay-Z really on Instagram Live?
If you’ve been a fan of Jay-Z then you would know that social media is not something he indulges in. He may have been active on Twitter once upon a time but he soon found it to be very addictive and time-consuming.
Nowadays, the rapper restricts his binge to random pop-ups on social media, causing a frenzy in a culture that reveres him as the saviour of Hip-Hop.
On Tuesday evening, the same thing happened on Instagram. So, yes, it is true. Jay-Z was on Instagram Live but his face was nowhere to be seen.
Watch: Jigga pokes fun at Jeymes Samuel on Young Guru’s IG Live
All of this took place on the IG Live feed of Young Guru, Jay-Z’s renowned engineer and tour DJ. In a two-way conversation with British singer Jeymes Samuel, Jay-Z’s voice could be heard interrogating Samuel about a bag that was allegedly stolen at the rap billionaire’s post-Oscar Gold Party.
You see, Samuel had popped up on Jay Electronica’s IG Live feed a couple of weeks ago and told a story about how his bag that held his toiletries was stolen at the Gold Party.
Of course, Jay Elect could not believe this and word must have reached Hov through the grapevine. We aren’t certain if this was planned but by sheer coincidence, Samuel popped up on Young Guru’s feed last night and Jay-Z happened to be around. Careful to not show his face, the rapper poked fun at Samuel, taking his accusations lightly.
It was a moment in culture we may never see again. For true Hip-Hop heads, his precautions were a clear indication that we may never see Jay-Z featured in the ever-so-popular Verzuz battles.
