In a candid discussion with Interview Magazine, Rihanna recently shared insights into her personal life, motherhood fashion and her evolving creative process in music.
Rihanna opens up bout Motherhood fashion
With two young children, Rihanna admits that her fashion choices have become more centred around comfort and practicality.
“It’s more like I spend my time getting the kids dressed to death, and then I’m like, ‘What’s the most comfortable outfit to wear around them? What’s not going to feel uncomfortable on their face or on their body or make me feel like I can’t hold them properly?’” she explained.
Speaking to the publication’s editor-in-chief Mel Ottenberg, who also serves as her personal stylist, the singer expressed that while she aims to ensure her children are well-dressed, she opts for simpler, more comfortable attire for herself, describing moms as “lazy dressers in real life.”
Why she feels ‘bummy’ next to ASAP Rocky
Rihanna also touched on her relationship with ASAP Rocky, noting that his impeccable fashion sense occasionally leaves her feeling underdressed.
“I be feeling bummy as shit next to this man,” she shared with Ottenberg.
Despite Rocky’s penchant for high fashion, such as wearing full Bottega suits even on casual occasions, Rihanna stated she does not feel competitive with him.
Instead, she emphasised the shift in her own style due to the practical necessities of motherhood.
What about new Rihanna music? Here’s the latest
Beyond fashion, Rihanna also discussed her current creative process concerning her music.
Known for her hits and visually captivating music videos, she revealed an interesting reversal in her artistic approach.
“I have a lot of visual ideas,” she said, indicating that these concepts are currently preceding the music itself, which is a shift from her usual process.
“I usually have the music first, and the music leads me into all of these visual opportunities, and now I’m having all of these visuals, and I don’t have the songs for them yet,” Rihanna explained.
While she hinted at being in the early stages of creating new tracks, she kept details sparse, humorously noting that she “can’t tell” more because “the opps is watching.”
