The audition tape, surfacing online earlier this week, shows Nas, a prominent figure from Queensbridge, reading lines for the character ultimately portrayed by Cam’ron.
This priceless gem has sparked various reactions on social media, particularly considering Nas was in a feud with Jay-Z during the film’s production.
Paid in Full, released in 2002, delves into the 1980s Harlem drug scene, a narrative led by Azie AZ Faison, Rich Porter, and Alpo Martinez. Alongside Cam’ron, the film starred Wood Harris and Mekhi Phifer.
Dame Dash, who co-produced the film, has teased a sequel to Paid in Full.
However, in a 2002 update during an appearance on Club Shay Shay, he remarked that the original cast, now around 50 years old, would not feature in the sequel.
Paid in Full is set in Harlem in the late 1980s and follows the life of Ace (played by Wood Harris), a young man working at a dry cleaning store.
Ace is drawn into the drug trade after discovering cocaine in a pair of pants left at the dry cleaners. His rise in the drug world is rapid, and he soon becomes a significant figure in Harlem’s drug scene.
The film also focuses on Ace’s relationships with his drug-dealing friends Mitch (Mekhi Phifer) and Rico (Cam’ron), exploring themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the impact of the drug trade on their lives and communities.
