The incident took place at the prestigious Radio City Music Hall in New York City, where Rife was performing as part of his ProbleMATTic World Tour.
Videos circulating on social media show Lisa Ann being led away by NYPD officers, while she protests, claiming she did nothing wrong and hadn’t used her phone during the performance.
Why was she arrested?
The charges against Lisa Ann stem from allegations of her using her phone during the show, a claim she vehemently denies.
In a world where recording devices are often locked away to protect the integrity of performance, Rife’s show had no such policy, though it strongly discouraged any form of recording.
Lisa Ann’s frustration was palpable in her social media posts, where she recounted the ordeal of being handcuffed, placed in an ambulance, and then released, all without seeing much of the show she looked forward to.
Despite the controversy, Matt Rife’s ProbleMATTic World Tour rolls on. The comedian, known for his unapologetic humour and ability to sell out venues, has recently faced backlash for a joke in his Netflix special deemed insensitive.
The joke involved a scenario where he observed a female server with a black eye at a “ratchet” restaurant in Baltimore. He proceeded to make a quip suggesting that if she could cook, she wouldn’t have that black eye.
Rife then commented on the audience’s reaction, stating he was “just testing the waters, seeing if y’all are gonna be fun or not,” and remarked that starting with domestic violence jokes should make the rest of the show smooth sailing.
However, this has not deterred his fanbase or the momentum of his tour.
Rife continues to perform across the country, navigating the complex landscape of modern comedy with his characteristic boldness. The arrest of Lisa Ann at his show adds a peculiar footnote to the tour’s history but seems unlikely to slow its progress.
