Young Hollywood actress Marsai Martin was the talk of social media when she graced the runway at the fourth instalment of the Savage X Fenty fashion show.

The Amazon Prime Video exclusive was a star-studded affair, as Rihanna showcased her Volume 4 collection. The event featured the likes of Johnny Depp, who, during a cameo appearance, was seen walking through a mystic forest.
In an Instagram post that has garnered more than a million likes, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor thanked Riri for the cameo.
The Volume 4 fashion show was every bit edgy as Rihanna previously hinted. The event featured performances from Burna Boy, Maxwell, Don Toliver and Anitta.
Perhaps, one of the most polarising moments of the fashion show was the moment Marsai, who turned 18 on 14 August 2022, turned up to the runway in a risque leopard print bodysuit.
Leading up to the controversial cameo, Martin had admitted that while she was excited about the prospect of modelling Rihanna’s lingerie, it was a nerve-wracking experience.
“I feel excited. I feel nervous. It’s, honestly, very unexpected but I am so grateful. I mean, the entire vision, from Volume 4, from the very beginning has been amazing. The creative direction and just the overall visuals have been beautiful. So, it is just completely surreal to be apart of it,” she said.

This is the first time the world has seen Martin far removed from the child star who won over hearts and made meme history with her role on Black-Ish. As a late teen, some of her long-standing fans and women in general, in fact, found her edgy appearance on the show, three months into her adulthood, as bothersome.
While some appreciated her maturity and applauded the actress’ execution, others were critical of Rihanna’s decision to perpetuate the stigma of Hollywood’s affinity for sexualising young actresses.
