Watch: Kagiso Mall robbery caught on CCTV
As reported by News24, Gauteng investigators are in search of five suspects believed to be involved in the cash-in-transit heist that occurred inside the shopping centre on Monday, 14 November 2022.
In the video that’s since gone viral, a security guard was seen entering a steel door next to an Absa ATM, pulling a trolley holding bags of sealed cash and completely unaware of his surroundings.
In a split second, a man dressed in a blue coat and white dad hat rushed toward the door and yanked it open. Before the security guard could react, the suspect quickly grappled and pulled him to the ground, leaving the door wide open and the trolley carrying the large sums of cash unattended.
The entire time during the ordeal, an ATM user, who may have been close enough to get a good look at the suspects, watched on in horror as a second suspect appeared in the frame.
As the eyewitness dashed to safety, the unidentified suspect, dressed in grey, quickly ran into the room and hauled out the trolley with the bags of cash, before disappearing out of sight.
According to Gauteng police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda, at least five gunmen were involved in the cash-in-transit heist. The guard’s partner, Lt-Col Netshiunda revealed, who did not appear in the CCTV footage, was disarmed and held back by unidentified gunmen when the robbery took place.
The suspects fled the shopping mall in a black Mercedes Benz C-Class. Security cameras from Kagiso Mall and eyewitnesses will play a vital role in tracking down the suspects who, at the time this article was published, were still at large.
This is a developing story.
