Authorities in Brits, North West, have been inundated with cash-in-transit heists after a second van was attacked in broad daylight on Thursday.
Two vans targeted in one week
In a span of 24 hours, two money vans were targeted by unknown armed groups in Kgabalatsane, this week. While details around these coordinated attacks remain sketchy, it’s believed at least two guards were fatally wounded in Thursday’s attack.
Police have yet to issue a formal statement with updates on investigations into the brazen robberies. Moreover, it’s believed the suspects involved in both heists are still at large.
At this time, it’s unknown if the cash-in-transit heists are linked to the same syndicate.
This is a developing story.

Soon after the incident took place in the North West township, onlookers recorded footage of the aftermath, where large crowds had gathered to witness the horrific scene.
A vehicle that was abandoned in the middle of the road, was set alight by the suspects who’d occupied it before the robbery.
A short distance away, the cash van was barely recognisable as it had drowned in flames. Nearby, the bodies of two guards were strewn on the dusty road, laying motionless as onlookers walked by in close proximity, possibly tampering with the crime scene.
No sight of the police was seen at the time the footage was recorded. It’s believed investigations are still ongoing and police have yet to respond to our questions on the status of the cases.
