A court has ruled that Freddie Stapelberg, the accused mastermind behind the Langenhoven Street double murder, will stay incarcerated until his trial.
Freddie Stapelberg bail application denied: Here’s the latest
Appearing before the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, on Wednesday, the bail application submitted by Stapelberg was denied, ensuring his continued detention.
Stapelberg, facing serious allegations for orchestrating the murders of Nadine Terblanche and her son, Ruandrê Vorster, on Monday, 27 November 2023, appeared alongside Pardon Danhire, the gardener implicated in the actual execution of the crime.
The pair will remain behind bars until the matter returns to the court roll for pretrial proceedings. It’s likely that the case will be transferred to a high court, due to the nature of the charges.
What we know about the case so far
The case against Freddie Stapelberg and Pardon Danhire has captured national attention, unravelling a narrative of betrayal and calculated violence.
According to authorities, Stapelberg promised Danhire a sum of R100 000 to murder Terblanche and her son.
The prosecution asserts that Danhire carried out this heinous act, using an axe to kill Terblanche in her room, and subsequently smothering Ruandrê in his.
The young boy, previously celebrated for overcoming cancer in 2021, tragically lost his life in an utterly different battle.
Suspicions of a prior attempt on Ruandrê’s life by Stapelberg have also emerged, linked to an incident in June 2023 involving contaminated food.
Further complicating Stapelberg’s role is the mismatch of his timeline on the day of the murders and his financial gain from three life insurance policies opened on behalf of Terblanche, naming him the beneficiary.
A notable payout from one such policy was already made to Stapelberg before his arrest.
