YoungstaCPT resurfaced on the music scene with a fiery new single titled Song of the Year, where he takes several subliminal jabs at South African rappers who dropped music in 2022.
YoungstaCPT takes aim at ‘TikTok rappers’ on ‘Song of the Year’
The Cape Town senior rapper tapped Shaney Jay for a reimagined interpolation of a classic House sample — a trend in South African Hip-Hop lately –where he reflected on the biggest events in entertainment from 2022.
From the untimely deaths of Takeoff, DJ Citilyts and Riky Rick, to taking shots at TikTok rappers who ‘copy and paste’ to fit in, YoungstaCPT left no stone unturned in his tongue-in-cheek review of the past year.
In his own words, the likes of Nasty C, Blxckie, Dee Koala and Holy Alpha, were exempt from his vitriol. However, everyone else who dropped this past year “was mid/in the bin/kinda trashy.”
