Dee Koala has the crown in her palm of her dainty hands and looking ahead at the future, she only sees herself at the top of the music industry as a powerful and influential figure.
Dee Koala to release next single under her own record label
Of course, we pulled this from the depth of our buttocks but at least, this is the sentiment that oozes from the recent business move the 20-year-old announced on social media.
The award-winning rapstress is releasing her next single Spazz featuring Blxckie and Cape Town’s K.Keed under her newly formed record label, titled after her pseudonym, Dee Koala (Pty) Ltd.
Even greater is the fact that this single — and many other releases to come from the Khayelitsha native — will be distributed by US label EMPIRE.
This, Koala, announced in a tweet she shared on social media, where she unveiled Spazz‘s official artwork.

A look at how powerful this deal is for Koala
In a recently published Native Mag piece, Koala’s manager Leo Lobelo reacted to the momentous news, saying:
“It is such a blessing as she’s one of the very few Southern African artists to have a deal with EMPIRE. The business relationship between Dee Koala (Pty) Ltd and EMPIRE is so special; it’s a mutually beneficial deal.”
The details of Koala’s deal are unknown but in general, artists entering into a distribution contract with EMPIRE are backed by a global machine that channels their music into lucrative ventures which include, funding, marketing, advertising, sync licensing and an innovative content management system.
We have yet to dig deep into the archives to fact-check this but we can confidently assume that this is the first time in history a Hip-Hop artist from Cape Town has inked a deal of this prominence with a US label.
It remains to be seen what this move will do 4TheKhaltsha.
