The first day of the first-for-the-Mother City Comic-Con Cape Town festival was a success and, on Friday, thousands of fans will pile into the Cape Town International Convention Centre 2 to get through what is tipped to be an action-packed Day 2 schedule.
Comic-Con Cape Town kicks off with an epic bang
The pop culture and gaming festival offered fans the opportunity to see their favourite actors, attend Guest Spotlight Sessions, and cosplay competitions, and get an insight into what it takes to become a successful illustrator or animator.
Some of the highlights of the event included appearances by American actress Tati Gabrielle, The Walking Dead star Ross Marquand, and Kat Graham from The Vampire Diaries.
There were also several comic book artists in attendance, including Ian Churchill, Sean Izaakse, and Afua Richardson, who offered tips on how to become a successful illustrator.
The gaming hall featured various tournaments, tech, free-play areas, merchandise, and competitions, including a 32-player FIFA tournament and the Doritos Crunch Cup with a cash prize of R7 000 split amongst the top three.
The Cape Town International Animation Festival also took place during the event, with panel discussions and screenings of animated films.

On Day 2 of Comic-Con Cape Town, fans should expect the same top-billing entertainment.
“As a team, we are thankful for the welcoming spirit that the local pop-culture fans have already shown. We are so excited to be bringing Africa’s largest pop culture and gaming festival to the Mother City where visitors get to embrace being themselves, regardless of their cultural background, physical ability, or personal identity.
