Springboks trophy tour: Cape Town road closures on Friday, 3 November 2023
As the Springboks’ national victory tour makes its grand entry into Cape Town this Friday, 3 November 2023, the Mother City is gearing up for a celebratory procession that promises to bring a festive spirit to the streets.
However, with the revelry comes significant road closures that will impact the day’s traffic flow.
The celebration is set to commence at 10:00 on the Grand Parade, with the iconic City Hall serving as the backdrop for the event.
Local artists, including DJ Ready D, Bravo Le Roux, Fancy Galada, Mujahid George, Amy Jones, and PJ Powers, will provide live performances, adding to the vibrant atmosphere as the city honours the triumphant Springboks.
City officials issued an advisory for residents and motorists, noting that Darling Street will be closed from Buitenkant Street to Plein Street starting at 21:30 on Thursday, 2 November 2023, until 14:00 on Friday, 3 November 2023.
Additional temporary road closures will be in effect in the CBD from 10:00 to 14:00 on Friday to accommodate the tour’s route.
These closures are not limited to the immediate vicinity of the celebration but will extend to several key streets within the city.
The affected streets include:
- Adderley Street;
- Wale Street;
- Long Street;
- Buitensingel;
- Loop Street;
- Strand Street;
- Heerengracht;
- Hertzog Boulevard; and
- Nelson Mandela Boulevard.
The city has also planned “soft closures,” which are temporary and dynamic roadblocks that will be implemented as the procession moves through the city.
Spectators lining up to see the Springboks and the coveted trophy are reminded of the bus route that will traverse through CBD and additional areas such as Langa, Bonteheuwel, and along Jakes Gerwel and Robert Sobukwe Drives.
