Authorities recently apprehended two Table Mountain robbers, addressing a pressing concern for local residents and visitors alike.
Two Table Mountain alleged robbers arrested
Cape Town’s proactive law enforcement officers achieved notable success in the fight against crime on the slopes of Table Mountain.
During routine patrols aimed at curbing the spate of robberies in the area, officers encountered two individuals acting suspiciously near Kloof Nek Rd. late Thursday evening.
The suspects attempted to flee upon being approached, leading to a chase that culminated in their arrest.
Found in possession of the suspects were items believed to be stolen, including a laptop, a tablet, and a cellphone, alongside a prohibited firearm.
The individuals, a 29-year-old male from Imizamo Yethu and a 43-year-old male from Alexander were detained and subsequently handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation.
These arrests could potentially link the suspects to previous criminal activities in the area.
The City’s safety MEC JP Smith lauded the effectiveness of the Cape Town law enforcement’s strategy of being “fit for purpose.”
“This again is another excellent example of our enforcement officers demonstrating the need to be ‘fit for purpose.’ They were vigilant while out on proactive patrols. They were physically fit and coordinated their pursuit of the suspects, even while on the run. I thank these officers and all of the colleagues, across all of the services, who daily build on the reputation we are striving to create in Cape Town,” he said..
