Spar Proteas Gearing Up for the Tournament
The Spar Proteas, South Africa’s senior national netball team, are gearing up for their opening match against Wales on Friday at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
As the 2023
Netball World Cup takes place on African soil for the first time since its establishment in 1963, the Proteas aim to set a strong tone and perform at their best during the competition.
Having finished in the top four in the previous edition and winning the silver medal, the team is eager to make a mark and compete with the best teams in the world.
Road Closures in Cape Town CBD
To ensure the smooth flow of events and ease traffic congestion during the 2023 Netball World Cup, several road closures will be implemented in the Cape Town CBD.
These closures will be in effect from 28 July until 7 August 2023.
It’s essential for both residents and visitors to be aware of these closures and plan their routes accordingly.
- Walter Sisulu Avenue: Full closure, including slip lanes off Nelson Mandela Boulevard, between Buitengracht Street and Lower Long Street from 110:00, 25 July 2023, to 05:00, 7 August 2023.
- Walter Sisulu Avenue: Westbound closure between Lower Loop Street and Buitengracht from 10:00, 20 July 2023, to 05:00, 7 August 2023.
- Walter Sisulu Avenue: Eastbound closure between Lower Long Street and Heerengracht from 10:00, 25 July 2023, to 5:00, 7 August 2023.
- Lower Long Street: Southbound closure between FW de Klerk Boulevard and Walter Sisulu Avenue from 10:00, 25 July 2023, to 5:00, 7 August 2023, with northbound lane restrictions.
- Wharf Street, Cullinan Street: Full closure between Walter Sisulu Avenue and Lower Loop Street from 8:00, 20 July 2023, to 5:00, 7 August 2023.
- FW de Klerk Boulevard: Closure between Heerengracht and Lower Long Street from 10:00, 25 July 2023, to 5:00, 7 August 2023.
- Rua Bartholomeu Dias Street: Closure between Heerengracht and Salazar Square from 10:00, 25 July 2023, to 5:00, 7 August 2023.
- Parking Restrictions: Various streets in the CBD, including Walter Sisulu Avenue, Heerengracht, Lower Long Street, Cullinan Street, Wharf Street, Lower Loop Street, Alpha Street, and Jetty Street, will have parking restrictions from specific dates until 7 August 2023.
City of Cape Town exempts Netball tournament, player hotels, from loadshedding
In light of the Netball World Cup, the City of Cape Town has assured the organisers that loadshedding will not affect the event at the Cape Town International Convention Centre and the official hotels for players and officials.
The assurance aims to ensure a seamless experience for all attendees during the tournament.
