Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister of Electricity, was involved in a car accident this afternoon, 14 April 2024, while travelling from North West Province to Gauteng.

The minister’s vehicle, which also carried two security protectors, was involved in a collision with another car as they were returning from an ANC campaign event.
In a statement, the Presidency confirmed that all individuals involved received immediate medical attention at the scene.
Following a comprehensive medical check-up, it was determined that Dr Ramokgopa did not require hospital admission and could safely return home.
“The Minister is doing well and has expressed his heartfelt and sincere wishes for a speedy and optimal recovery to those injured in the accident. He also sends best wishes to all individuals affected by the incident,” the statement read.
Electricity Minister was hot on the ANC campaign trail in North West this weekend
Amid stable conditions in the national power grid, Dr Ramokgopa actively participated in the ANC’s campaign in the North West.
The campaign kicked off with a gala dinner in Midrand, hosted by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Friday.
The following day, Dr Ramokgopa travelled to Tshidilamolomo Village in Ratlou, engaging with the community and discussing government actions to tackle local service delivery issues.
His weekend campaign trail included visits to multiple locations, culminating in a church service in Mareetsane Village, where the unfortunate accident occurred.
