Uber Eats said that starting from 2 August 2021 all Uber Eats customers in South Africa will be asked to accept a new Delivery Services Agreement.
Uber Eats introduced new delivery services agreement
“You will be notified about any changes to the Terms by e-mail and a new version will be made available online. When accessing or using the Delivery Services, you consent to be bound by the Terms, as amended, at the time you use the Services,” Uber Eats wrote on their blog.
Customers will only be able to use the app after they have accepted the new agreement. From then, they can order food, beverages, or other items from restaurants or other businesses available on the Uber Eats app. This new agreement is to ensure that customers pay for delivery services, which will be charged by the Merchant directly.
The new Terms will apply to Uber Deliveries only and not apply to Merchant Deliveries or Pickup orders. On their blog, Uber said customers are also free at all times to request or not request Delivery Services and that users can cancel their order if the Merchant hasn’t begun preparing it, if it’s the opposite, the customer will be charged the full amount.
Payment for Delivery Services
Users of the app will now receive two receipts — one from Uber South Africa for sale of Delivery Services and one from the Merchant for sale of Items. And if the Merchant will be delivering, the user will get a receipt from Uber South Africa on behalf of the Merchant, along with the receipt for Items.
You will be able to pay for Delivery Services using a credit or debit card. Another thing, all the fees will include VAT
Uber will suspend your access to Delivery Services by blocking the Uber Eats App until your selected payment method is effecting payments in the case of insufficient funds.
