Internationally acclaimed singer Celine Dion is facing a significant health challenge with stiff-person syndrome.
Celine Dion sister reveals updates on singer’s stiff-person syndrome
This rare neurological disorder was publicly disclosed by Dion in December 2022. It causes muscle spasms that severely affect her ability to walk and perform.
Celine’s sister, Claudette Dion, recently provided an update on the singer’s condition.
She revealed that Celine, at 55 years old, struggles with controlling her muscle movements, a direct consequence of stiff-person syndrome.
This lack of muscle control contrasts sharply with Dion’s long-standing reputation for discipline and hard work in her career.
Claudette expressed uncertainty about Celine’s future in performing.
“The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle. This is what gets me,” she said.
While Dion hopes to return to the stage, the exact nature of her comeback is uncertain due to the disorder’s impact on essential functions for singing.

Dion remains dedicated to her recovery, supported by a team of medical professionals and her family. She continues to work hard to regain her strength and abilities, despite acknowledging the difficulty of her situation.
Due to the severity of her condition, Dion had to cancel her Courage world tour in May 2023.
In her own words, Dion has expressed her determination, saying,
“I have a great team of doctors working alongside me to help me get better, and my precious children, who are supporting me and giving me hope. I’m working hard with my support medicine therapist every day to build back my strength and my ability to perform again. But I have to admit, it’s been a struggle.”
