Reinstated Metro FM DJ Dineo Ranaka has surfaced as an alleged assaulter after a fiery confrontation with a fan at a nightclub this past weekend.
Did Dineo Ranaka assault Tengetile Khumalo?
Tengetile Khumalo was at Funk BA, a popular restaurant in Sandton, JHB, on Sunday.
From what we understand, the private event was hosted by Khumalo, who allegedly paid Ranaka R10 000 for a DJ set. Excited to see her favourite celeb, Khumalo, it’s believed, got lost in the moment and, naturally, whipped out her phone to take pictures of the jockey.
However, moments into her performance, things took an awry turn. Two versions of the events that transpired next exist. According to the restaurant manager, Bright Moyo, Khumalo, a big fan of Ranaka, whipped out her phone to take pictures of the jockey. However, for some reason, Ranaka was not pleased with this.
Speaking to Tshisa Live, Moyo detailed what happened next:
“We didn’t notice that she spotted someone who had taken photos of her already then she rushed into the toilet to confront the lady. She wanted to go delete the video or picture that the lady had. They confronted each other inside the toilet and then she came back to continue playing her set.”
Moyo added that Khumalo was seen rushing out of the bathroom and headed towards Ranaka who, by then, had returned to her booth.
“We don’t know what transpired in the toilet but when she came back to continue playing, the other lady was charging at her, so we quickly intervened with our security,” he said.
Ranaka, however, has a different account of what happened. According to the broadcaster and reality TV star, she spotted Khumalo taking pictures and approached her table “to try to explain to which she raised her hand at me in an attempt to slap me shouting that I should shut up.”
“I removed myself from her table. She followed me to the DJ booth, assaulted me! I unplugged my equipment and left with immediate effect to protect myself and my peace,” Ranaka claimed.
Ranaka maintained that the narrative was spun to make her look a certain way. However, from what we understand, the restaurant has CCTV footage of the incident which, at the time this article was published, had not been released.
“There seems to be a growing trend of people taking comfort in finger pointing me and going to extreme measures to publicly humiliate me in the press. I can’t control any of it but I can certainly stand by my truth,” Ranaka said.
