Early on Friday morning, two trucks were involved in an accident on the N4 road near the scenic Elands Valley.
The incident occurred close to the well-known Malaga Hotel, a popular stopover for travellers traversing this major thoroughfare.
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after the accident was reported.
Footage from the scene shows extensive damage to both vehicles, with debris scattered across the roadway, contributing to the complete closure of this section of the road.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
Preliminary reports suggest that no fatalities have occurred, but the exact number of injuries and the severity are currently being assessed.
The local police have cordoned off the area, allowing only emergency vehicles and cleanup crews access to the site.
Motorists who normally traverse this route are advised to seek alternative paths, as the road is expected to remain closed for an extended period to facilitate cleanup and ensure thorough safety checks.
Alternative routes motorists can take
With the closure of the N4 between Emgwenya and Airlie, travellers are urged to plan alternative routes to bypass the accident site.
The recommended detour for those heading towards Nelspruit is to take the R539 through Sudwala to join the R37, which reconnects to the N4 past the closure.
Conversely, motorists travelling towards Pretoria can reverse this route.
These alternative roads are currently experiencing higher-than-usual traffic, and additional travel time should be anticipated.
Local authorities are working closely with traffic management to monitor these routes and provide real-time updates via social media and traffic apps.
