People are starting to believe that Lebani Sirenje, otherwise known as Rasta The Artist, has hoodwinked us the entire time.

Rasta delivers on Andrew Mlangeni painting

The self-proclaimed best paint artist in South Africa took to social media to unveil the portrait of the fallen giant, Mlangeni, on the day of his funeral.

Was it a ruse this whole time?

Remarkably, the portrait struck a great resemblance to the last Rivonia Trialist and people could not believe it. You see, Rasta has built a bad reputation for botching portraits of people who have passed.

That, for a while, we believed was his M.O. He would be invited to craft a portrait of the person being honoured, be it they are dead or alive, and Rasta would literally take a left turn in his artistic interpretation.

It was almost a fixture of all political and/or burial events. In a way, his amateurish paintings provided much-needed comedic relief in times of distress, whether he meant for it to be that way or not.

Social media reacts to Rasta The Artist’s latest painting

Alas, it seems that the man’s paintbrush has taken on a new form. It’s either that or his wrist action has immensely improved.

This was the general sentiment shared by those who reacted to the painting on social media. Some felt that Rasta had it in him this entire time, while others genuinely believed that with consistent practice, the man has improved.

The polarising portrait shot Rasta’s name up the trends list and these are just some of the reactions we picked out:
