Renowned Family Feud SA host Steve Harvey has been in South Africa long enough to have felt the frustrating loadshedding brought on by Eskom.
Loadshedding takes a break on Tuesday 18 May
In a statement released in the wee hours of Tuesday, the power utility announced that rotational power cuts would be suspended until 17:00 on Tuesday after seven generation units returned to the grid.
However, this break from loadshedding would be short-lived, since stage 2 is expected to return from 17:00 until 22:00 on Tuesday evening.
Eskom detailed its winter strategy for maintaining a stable power grid at a period where demand usually soars in the evening.
“We are currently experiencing high evening peaks, which is typical of the winter demand period. Should there be any further deterioration in the generation capacity, loadshedding may be necessary, most likely between 17:00 and 22:00 during the winter period,” the power utility stated.
Watch: Steve Harvey has a message for Eskom
While Eskom remains optimistic that loadshedding won’t last throughout the week, the mere existence of such desperate measures from the power utility has rubbed people up the wrong way, including multimillionaire US legendary host, Harvey,
In a video clip shared by fellow broadcaster and host Devi Sankaree Govender, Harvey shared an ‘enlightening’ message to Eskom. Harvey stated that he’d like to purchase a home in South Africa but the prospect of living in a country with no electricity has left him discouraged.
Here’s Harvey’s take on South Africa’s endless battle with loadshedding:
