Onlookers watched on in horror as passengers scrambled out of the bus’s windows to safety after the carrier caught on fire.
The cause of the inferno remains unknown at this time. However, miraculously, all passengers managed to escape the ordeal unscathed.
In a statement, Putco confirmed one of its units caught flames “while en route at R573, Ditshweneng on the morning of 27 March 2024.”
“Our immediate priority has been the wellbeing of the passengers affected by this unfortunate event.We can confirm that we have provided prompt passenger assistance, particularly in addressing their injuries,” the bus service said.
Putco also noted that an active investigation is underway to determine the cause of the incident that posed a significant threat to its passengers.
“As investigation are still ongoing to determine the cause of the accident, we are actively collaborating with relevant authorities to gather all necessary information. Safety is our top priority and we are committed to ensuring that every aspect of this incident is thoroughly reviewed and addressed,” they explained.
According to reports, the bus was travelling from Moloto Deport to Irene in Centurion.
Footage of the shocking scene has since gone viral on social media.
