A Pretoria farmer has been hailed for his bravery on social media after CCTV video footage of his heroic reflexes against three armed robbers went viral.
What happened to the Pretoria farmer?
The incident, according to metadata found on the footage, took place on a farm situated in Kameeldrift West, Tshwane, on Sunday, 21 August 2022, at approximately 21:31.
While the man was preoccupied in his workshop, security cameras captured three shady characters creeping into frame. The men cautiously made their way into the workshop, careful not to alert the farmer, who, at that point, was none the wiser about the presence of intruders on his property.
The Pretoria farmer’s heart must’ve jumped to his throat when he turned around to see the barrel of a firearm pointed at him. His knee-jerk reaction was to throw himself on the ground and plead for his life, possibly aware of the fate dealt to most South African farmers in this situation.
“Whoa whoa, please please, wait wait, please wait for me,” the farmer screamed in Afrikaans.
Thinking the situation was under control, the robbers, one of whom was armed with a loaded gun, ushered the man toward the workshop exit, completely unaware that, at that point, faced with the fear of an impending end to his life, the Pretoria farmer was in full ‘fight-or-flight’ mode.
Suddenly, in what felt like a blink of an eye, the Pretoria farmer lunged toward a workbench and grabbed his firearm. Before they knew it, the hunters were the hunted.
The Pretoria farmer emptied his cartridge on the three robbers, who wasted no time in hauling out of the property,
What did the robbers take?
In a statement to News24, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello revealed that the farmer sustained no injuries in the horror encounter and that a case of attempted business robbery is currently under investigation.
As far as the robber’s efforts are concerned, Col. Sello confirmed they were futile since they made off empty-handed.

The suspects involved in the attempted robbery may still be at large. However, according to police, tracking them down is not an impossible task since, at the crime scene, investigators found a trail of blood from one of the robbers, possibly wounded by the farmer, a knife and a balaclava.
