President Cyril Ramaphosa battled with his composure when the newly sworn-in minister of transport, Sindisiwe Chikunga, walked to the podium to take her oath as a new Cabinet member.
Watch: President Ramaphosa sweats bullets over Minister Chikunga
Minister Chikunga was one of seven new members of Ramaphosa’s refreshed Cabinet, who huddled at the ceremony of oaths held in Cape Town on Wednesday, to accept her role as the leader of the long embattled transport portfolio.
Part of Ramaphosa’s new recruits included newly installed Minister of Electricity, Dr Kgosientsho Ramokgapo, who’s already garnered celebrity with is eccentric online persona.
ANC’s acting secretary-general, Paul Mashatile, was first on the list to be sworn-in as the new deputy president. Then, the moment that went viral on social media came when it was Minister Chikunga’s turn to accept the oath administered by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo.
On her way to the podium, cameras caught the president and his deputy visibly mesmerised by the minister’s protruding hips. Then, as she turned her back toward the two Executive heads, Ramaphosa lost his composure and stole a gaze at Chikonga’s ‘assets’ before he quickly caught himself and scurried his eyes away.
But, by then it was too late. Footage of the awkward moment spread like wildfire on social media, spawning a viral moment he may have to answer for to his wife, and First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe.
Here’s the footage in question:
