South Africa’s Ndlovu Youth Choir received rave reviews for their spine-chilling rendition of Rihanna‘s Lift Me Up from the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack.

The internationally acclaimed choir took a pick at the Marvel soundtrack and gave it a much-needed African twist that perfectly suits the Chadwick Boseman tribute.
On Lift Me Up, Rihanna pays tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman and sets the tone for what’s expected to be a teary affair in theatres. Lift Me Up was co-written by:
- Tems;
- Ludwig Göransson;
- Rihanna; and
- Ryan Coogler
To commemorate the epic Marvel tribute, Ndlovu Youth Choir, a South African musical group founded in 2008 and famous for its covers, took up the challenge to add flair to Rihanna’s Lift Me Up.
The minute-long rendition was released on the choir’s YouTube two weeks ago, and only gained traction days after the Black Panther sequel hit theatres.

‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ sweeps at the box office
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever premiered at South African theatres on Friday, 11 November 2022. The film, dubbed the last entry to Phase 4 and Ryan Coogler’s ode to Boseman, set a new record with a massive box office debut, per Deadline.
The Black Panther sequel earned $180 million (est. R3.1 billion) on its first weekend in US theatres, marking it the biggest opening in November thus far, and second to Marvel’s Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness this year.
Globally, Black Panther 2 earned more than $330 million (est. R5.7 billion) over the weekend and is on course for a stellar month at the box office.
