Video footage circulating on social media shows the harrowing scenes that unfolded inside Madeira police station in Mthatha, Eastern Cape.
Watch: Man walks out after assaulting woman at Madeira police station
The video that has since gone viral on social media starts off with a man in a heated confrontation with a female police officer.
Standing between them is a woman, supposedly the alleged victim who went to Madeira police station to file a gender-based violence case against the irate man, believed to be her romantic partner.
Things quickly escalate into chaos when the female officer smacks the man’s phone out of his grasp.
It’s unclear what prompted the fiery confrontation, but the man accused of domestic violence goes into a blind rage and attacks the woman who turned to the police station for assistance.
The entire ordeal was caught on camera by a female eyewitness who, unfortunately, was attacked by the same man.
Today, I found this most disturbing video of a victim trying to report GBV at Maderia police station in Stutterhiem last night, and this is what had transpired… The victim was assaulted continuously in front of the police and they did nothing… Predator is still roaming around pic.twitter.com/wW18hd2V3M

Madeira police station had not responded to our questions at the time this article was published. However, based on the second video on the incident man filmed beating up women, including an officer, was allowed to leave the precinct.
Nothing happened to the perpetrator, he was just told to go outside by the policewoman (probably went home)

In 2020, Madeira police station came under fire after a woman was shot and killed inside the precinct by the man she went to file a domestic violence case against.
βThe suspect (42) who is believed to be working as a security guard in one of the prominent Security Companies in Mthatha, is alleged to have attempted to escape after committing this crime but was chased and arrested by the police. The firearm he had in his possession was confiscated and would be sent to forensic laboratory for ballistic testing,β police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed at the time.
