Plumes of smoke rose from Maboneng precinct on Tuesday, where the abandoned Marshall House building was on fire.
Maboneng Marshall House building fire caught on camera
Details were still trickling in when this article was published. However, bystanders watched on in horror when plumes of thick smoke escaped from the top floor of the building in the busy Maboneng precinct, in the centre city of Johannesburg on Tuesday afternoon.
The latest update coming from reporters on the ground suggests the fire was under control and being contained by first respondents from the city’s Fire and Rescue department.
Moreover, sources close to the situation confirmed that while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, the last occupants of the abandoned building were unidentified vagrants.
It’s unclear at this time, however, what started the fire.
Most important, perhaps, is the fact that, thus far, it appears the fire has not claimed a life or caused injuries.
This is a developing story.
