Kempton Park police are the subject of backlash on social media after a motorist filmed what, at first glance, looked like a bribery between on-duty officers and a group of suspicious-looking men.
Watch: Kempton Park alleged police bribery caught on camera
Swisher Post made valiant attempts at getting comment from Kempton Park authorities on the contents of the viral footage. However, a response was not returned to us at the time this article was published.
Therefore, at this juncture, not much information is available on the context of the video you will see below.
A motorist was left gob-smacked after they witnessed what appeared to be a team of on-duty police officers accepting a bundle of cash from a group of men believed to be foreign nationals.
In the video clip, a group of five men is seen swarming around a SAPS vehicle with registration plates BVS 854 B.
One officer stands on the driver’s side of the vehicle with his phone in his hands, as he interacts with his colleague.
Outside the front passenger’s window, an unidentified male is seen leaning against the vehicle.
Two other males engage with the occupants of the police vehicle and, at first, things appear relatively cordial.
However, at the 00:30 mark, one of the males takes out his wallet, removes a bundle of cash, and casually hands it to the passenger seated next to the driver of the SAPS vehicle, before quickly turning away.
No statements have come from Kempton Park police with more clarity on the context of the encounter. However, eyebrows were raised at the exchange of money between civilians and police.
