The Boksburg explosion that claimed several lives, including children, was caught on camera by onlookers who witnessed the moment a multi-ton gas fuel tanker went up in flames.
What caused the Boksburg explosion?
As reported by numerous media outlets, eight victims have, at this time, been tallied in the death toll resulting from the Boksburg explosion.
From what we understand, a search effort was undertaken on Saturday early afternoon to track down more victims believed to be impacted by the deadly blast.
Details on the exact cause of the Boksburg explosion are still the subject of an ongoing investigation. However, according to reports, the gas tanker from cargo and fleet company Infinite Group caused a deadly hazard when it attempted to drive through an underpass near OR Tambo Memorial Hospital on Saturday morning.
In a statement quoted by The Citizen, Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen confirmed the truck was carrying LP Gas when it exploded.
It still remains unknown what exactly caused the explosion. However, speculation on social media is rife about the driver’s decision to force the multi-ton gas tanker through the narrow underpass.
“At this stage we can confirm there have been multiple people left with critical injuries and several fatalities,” Van Reenen said.
A final death toll in the Boksburg explosion has yet to be determined. It also remains to be seen if Infinite Group will, in any way, be held liable for the deaths.
