Renowned women’s hurdles athlete Tobi Amusan revealed on Wednesday that she has been charged with an alleged anti-doping rule violation.
Why was Tobi Amusan charged with anti-doping violation?
The charges, related to missed tests, have raised concerns about her participation in the upcoming world championships in August 2023.
The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has provisionally suspended Amusan and the charges will be heard by the Disciplinary Tribunal before the World Athletics Championships.
Alleged Violation and Suspension
In an Instagram post, Tobi Amusan announced that she has been charged with an alleged anti-doping rule violation for missing three tests within a 12-month period.
The AIU later confirmed the charges and the provisional suspension of the Nigerian athlete due to “three Whereabouts Failures.”
Tobi Amusan, 26, achieved the current world record for the women’s 100m hurdles, clocking in at an incredible 12.12 seconds during the World Athletics Championships in 2022.
Despite the charges, she remains determined to resolve the matter before the upcoming championships in Budapest. Amusan expressed confidence that her case will be resolved in her favour and that she will be able to compete in August 2023.
