As questions linger on the mysterious death of ANC MP and former minister Tina Joemat-Petterrson, the details of her funeral arrangements have been revealed.
When is Tina Joemat-Petterrson funeral?
The ANC’s first deputy secretary-general, Nomvula Mokonyane, announced on Wednesday that a private funeral service will be held to honour Joemat-Pettersson’s memory.
During a briefing in Cape Town, Mokonyane expressed the family’s wishes for a private ceremony where they could bid farewell to their beloved comrade.
She assured that the family would receive the necessary support and space to give Joemat-Pettersson a dignified send-off in accordance with their wishes.
At this time, no information has surfaced o whether the Tina Joemat-Pettersson funeral will be live-streamed.
Details on Joemat-Petterrson memorial service confirmed
The briefing followed a meeting between Mokonyane, national executive committee members Pam Tshwete and Alvin Botes, ANC Western Cape leadership, Joemat-Pettersson’s family, and her extended relatives.
The gathering allowed for reflection on Joemat-Pettersson’s life and provided an opportunity for all attendees to express their shock and extend their support to the family.
Acknowledging the messages and calls received by the family, Mokonyane conveyed their appreciation for the outpouring of condolences. She also mentioned that Joemat-Pettersson’s elder brother would collaborate with the ANC to prepare for a national memorial service scheduled to take place in Kimberly on Wednesday, 14 June 2023.
Additionally, the ANC Women’s League is planning a national memorial service on Thursday, 15 June 2023, where a ceremony called the “hanging of the blouse” will be held in Kimberly as well.
In a gesture of mourning, the ANC will lower its flags at provincial offices and the national headquarters, Luthuli House. Condolences books, including an electronic one, will be made available at provincial offices and Luthuli House to allow individuals to express their sympathies.
Details about Joemat-Pettersson’s death remain a mystery. Before her untimely death, the former minister was linked to a bribery scandal involving suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.
