A peaceful Tuesday morning in Jaipur, Rajasthan, was disrupted when Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, a prominent right-wing political figure, fell victim to a violent assassination.
Gogamedi, known for his leadership in the Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena, was at his residence when assailants stormed in, leading to a fatal shootout.
As reported by Indian media, the attackers, posing as visitors, gained entry to Gogamedi’s home in the Shyam Nagar area.
The situation quickly escalated into a gunfight, tragically resulting in Gogamedi’s death. The intense exchange of fire also left one of the attackers dead and a security guard wounded.
Despite claims linking Rohit Godara, a man rumoured to have ties with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi-Goldy Brar gang, to the attack, he has since rubbished speculation of his involvement.
“I am Rohit Godara, a student studying and doing my studies. I have nothing to do with the incident that happened in Rajasthan yesterday, I am being defamed, some people are harassing me on social media by using my photo,” he wrote in a post on X/
Gogamedi’s political journey was marked by his split from Sri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 and the subsequent formation of Shri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena. Both organisations gained national attention for their vehement protest against the Bollywood film Padmaavat in 2018.
Reports indicate that Gogamedi had been receiving threats weeks before he was brutally killed. The police are now sifting through evidence, including the crucial CCTV footage, to piece together the events leading to this fatal incident.
