The Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) has entered the search for a man believed to be a traffic officer, who was seen on video assaulting a man inside his Bentley.
Watch: Viral clip of Bentley assault
The footage was first shared by renowned journalist Nomsa Maseko on Twitter. The short clip shows two occupants of a Bentley seemingly in distress, with an irate man clad in traffic uniform screaming into the driver’s window.
The driver, only known as ‘Thami’ at this time, was ordered inside his car. The ‘traffic official’, visibly blinded by rage, tosses a pair of sunglasses into the car and without warning, slaps the driver.
Gobsmacked by the entire situation, the woman filming this entire ordeal gasps and before the Bentley occupants could do anything about what was happening, the man had drawn and cocked his loaded pistol, ordering them to drive off.
Here’s footage of the incident that has since gone viral on social media:

RTMC expedites search for alleged traffic cop
Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula caught wind of the viral footage and moments later, shared a statement released by RTMC where it’s indicated that the matter has been escalated and is under investigation.
“This is nothing but an act of pure criminality and thuggery. Such behaviour is completely unacceptable and deserves the strongest censure,” RTMC noted.
At this time, no information on the identity of the traffic official in question has been released. However, we understand that RTMC has made strides in tracking down the officer.
“We urge members of the public not to tolerate such conduct and to lay criminal charges when confronted by such a situation,” RTMC added.
At the time this article was published, the traffic official in question was still at large.
