Former leader of the Democratic Alliance (DA) Mmusi Maimane borrowed quotes from a song on Drake’s new album Certified Lover Boy to let South Africans know how he really feels about his infamous exit from the party.
Mmusi Maimane throws shade at DA
Social media has been abuzz on Friday, after Toronto’s Lover Boy finally released his much-anticipated seventh studio album. As usual, fans of the rapper flooded the streets to post every quotable on the 21-track project.
Maimane was on the bandwagon as well. The 41-year-old posted a screenshot of Drake’s song Love All featuring Jay-Z.
On this record, the two megastars trade testimonies about the treachery that plagues their relationships. The song’s chorus laments on the nuances of back-stabbing and how “people never care ’til it’s R.I.P”
Loyalty is priceless and it’s all I need Can’t burn a bridge just to light my way
Maimane connected with this song so much, that he tweeted a screenshot of his Apple Music player paused on Jay-Z’s verse, captioning it with “when they ask me about the old situation…”

Maimane isn’t the only ex-member to publicly defame the DA. Former communications shadow minister of the official opposition, Phumzile Van Damme, also had some fiery words for the party’s leadership, particularly John Steenhuisen.
In a series of ‘rant’ tweets, Van Damme lambasted the new DA leader as a mockery, warning that Steenhuisen’s closet is filled with skeletons.
I am SO glad my name is no longer associated with the joke the DA has become under your leadership. YOU are the country's laughingstock & in the DA. I was not going to engage in war but you just couldn't keep your trap shut could you @jsteenhuisen? Mention my name again. I beg.
