Eskom revealed, in a statement released on Friday, that loadshedding will, as expected, continue this weekend with a few adjustments made.
Here’s the weekend loadshedding schedule
The state-owned power utility claimed that due to “lower than anticipated demand”, loadshedding was reduced from Stage 6 to Stage 4 on Friday until 22:00, and thereafter, lowered even further to Stage 2 until 07:00 on Saturday, 2 July 2022.
To meet the supposed low electricity demand, the national electricity supplier will adopt a loadshedding schedule that adjusts between Stage 4 and Stage 2 for the rest of the weekend.
Therefore, between 07:00 and 22:00 on Saturday and Sunday, Eskom will be loadshedding at Stage 4. In the evenings, between 22:00 and 07:00, rotational power cuts will be reduced to Stage 2.
“Eskom cautions that this reprieve is due to lower than anticipated demand during the weekend and continues to evaluate the situation and closely monitor the system. We will communicate and implement any changes as may be necessary,” the utility noted.
On Friday, Eskom had 3 104MW out on planned maintenance, and another 17 431MW of power not feeding the grid due to unplanned breakdowns.
Wage talks between the power utility and trade unions, the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), took place on Friday. However, neither Eskom nor the unions have issued an update on the stalemate.
