Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has confirmed that Khama Billiat will miss the MTN8 semi-final first leg against AmaZulu at FNB Stadium on Sunday, 2 October 2022.
Khama Billiat to miss semi-final first leg against Amazulu
As per The South African, Billiat has been recovering from an unknown injury. The injury led the Kaizer Chiefs forward to miss the last two matches, a 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants and the 2-1 victory over SuperSport United.
Zwane provided an update while confirming the unfortunate news, saying:
“Khama, surely he’s going to be out for two weeks.”
The announcement comes after Chiefs lost 4-2 on penalties to Royal AM in the 2022 Macufe Cup at Toyota Stadium on Sunday, 25 September 2022. The 32-year-old may be ready for the second leg on 23 October 2022 in Durban.
Billiat would have missed eight games if he were to only recover in time for the second leg. This is significant to Chiefs because Zwane wants to defeat the Usuthu team, which is currently in disarray and has plenty of rumours surrounding the future of coach Brandon Truter.
While this is happening, Chiefs are aiming to win the competition for the first time since the 2014/15 season, when they defeated Orlando Pirates in the championship game in Durban.
Billiat will also be vying for his first MTN8 championship. In the 2016/17 season, he fell short in the Sundowns vs Bidvest Wits championship game.
Chiefs recently welcomed Ashley Du Preez and Caleb-Bonfils Bimenyimana to the team. They, therefore, have enough ammunition in the front—however, they lack in the speed department.
In other Kaizer Chiefs news, fans were disappointed to find out that the club had failed to sign Kermit Erasmus. After losing favour at Mamelodi Sundowns, Erasmus had been linked with a move to Chiefs and Pirates. Erasmus has signed a two-year deal with the Buccaneers.
The forward returns to Pirates after leaving in 2016 to join Stade Rennais in France.
