A teacher from Fred Norman High School in Ennerdale, Johannesburg, is under investigation for allegedly hurling racial slurs at a mixed-race elderly woman during a heated confrontation that was caught on camera.
Fred Norman High teacher racial slurs under investigation
The south Joburg community has been reeling in anger and frustration over the lack of public outcry from political parties on the abhorrent behaviour displayed by the educator who filmed herself in a heated argument with an elderly woman on Friday, 12 August 2022.
Not only did the quarrel take place in full view of school pupils, but the educator was explicitly heard declaring her disdain for mixed-race people.
“I don’t. I don’t like coloureds, especially coloureds like you because you guys are rude. You guys don’t have manners,” the teacher exclaimed in the viral video clip.
At some point, the teacher was heard instructing a pupil to physically harm the elderly woman who was being ushered out of the class.
Here is the video clip that’s since gone viral:
Fortunately, the incident ended without a bout of fisticuffs. However, the teacher’s piercing words ruptured peace in Ennerdale, a community largely populated by mixed-race people.
Disgruntled parents, former educators of Fred Normal High School and community members held a picket outside the school earlier this week, calling for decisive action to be taken against the teacher.
The unrest forced the Gauteng Education Department to issue a public statement, where it was noted that the teacher in question has been “precautionarily removed from the school until further notice.”
“We have launched an investigation into circumstances surrounding this incident and, as such, the outcome will be communicated in due course,” the department noted.
Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi also paid a visit to Fred Norman High School to assure pupils and the Ennerdale community that racism in all forms will not be tolerated at institutions of learning.
