SABC will look to boost its viewership numbers with the introduction of English Premier League fixtures on its weekly scheduling.

Will SABC broadcast English Premier League games?
As reported by Diski Times, SABC Sport will look to increase its foothold on South Africa’s viewing audience, competing directly with Multichoice, after it acquired rights to broadcast select Premier League fixtures for the 2022/23 season.
The announcement was made on Monday, with SABC’s head of sport Gary Rathbone confirming the ambitious news on Soccer Zone.

“We’ll be showing it every Saturday afternoon on SABC 3 as well as on the sport channels [like] with all the other content as well. One of the top football leagues in the world, right back on the SABC. It will be one of the 15:00 games on a Saturday, selected by the Premier League,” Rathbone said.

The return of the Premier League to SABC Sport was welcomed by football fans, most of whom are not subscribed to DStv’s costly network.
SABC Sport will, from Saturday, 6 August 2022, broadcast one live fixture every weekend accompanied by:
- Match build-ups;
- four full-match repeat broadcasts; and
- a magazine show.
