Residents in certain areas of the City of Ekurhuleni should be prepared for a 40-hour water shutdown as Rand Water, the water utility provider, embarks on a planned maintenance project.
When is the Ekurhuleni 40-hour water shutdown?
The maintenance work involves the tie-in of a new portion of the H5 Pipeline to the existing infrastructure, which will affect water provision in parts of Ekurhuleni, Rand Water confirmed in a statement.
Starting from 18:00 on Friday, 9 June 2023, the maintenance project is set to continue until 12:00 on Sunday, 11 June 2023.
Rand Water has undertaken this project as part of its ongoing efforts to refurbish and upgrade infrastructure, ensuring a sustainable water supply in the future.
Unfortunately, during the maintenance period, some residents in the City of Ekurhuleni may experience shortages in their water supply.
Which areas will be affected by the shutdown?
The areas likely to be impacted by the Ekurhuleni 40-hour water shutdown include:
- Isandovale;
- Edenglen;
- De Klerkshof;
- Eastleigh;
- Hurlyvale;
- Highway Gardens;
- Buurendal;
- Illiondale;
- Sebenza; and
- Meadowdale
To ensure a smooth transition and minimise disruption, Rand Water has issued a 21-day advance notification to the affected municipal customer.
This allows the entity to communicate the impact of the maintenance project to its customers and make appropriate contingency plans.
The City of Ekurhuleni will provide detailed information on the affected areas and the extent of the water supply impact to its customers.
“Planned maintenance is necessary to ensure continuous future provision of water to our customers. We, apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by the implementation of the maintenance project. We urge ALL consumers to continue using water sparingly,” Rand Water said.
