However, the couple’s determination to honour their love led to a unique and heartwarming solution.
On the day they had initially chosen to tie the knot, the couple exchanged vows in a private ceremony within the walls of Far East Rand Hospital (FERH). Despite Maboi being bedridden, their love shone through in a touching hospital ward ceremony.
The hospital allowed a few family members, a pastor, and the bride and groom to proceed with the wedding. The intimate ceremony was supported by the FERH staff and the couple’s families, some of whom joined virtually through video calls.
Maboi and Mogale, who hail from Daveyton, have been together for 28 years and got engaged in December 2022. The accident threatened to delay their long-awaited union, but their love and commitment couldn’t be deterred.
MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko extended her congratulations to the newlyweds, praising their inspiring love story. She commended Far East Rand Hospital for its compassionate gesture, highlighting the dedication of its staff in creating an environment of solace and joy.
“This gesture by Far East Rand Hospital not only provided solace and joy to Godfrey and Paulinah but also showcased the dedication of the hospital staff in fostering an environment of compassion,” she said.
