The appointment of Cavin Johnson as the interim First Team coach for Kaizer Chiefs has sparked interest in his career track record.
Cavin Johnson steps in as interim coach after Ntseki axing
Cavin Johnson recently joined Amakhosi as Head of the Youth Development Academy.
However, due to the first team’s poor run of form in all competitions, the club took the decision to fire Molefi Ntseki and, thus, Johnson was forced to step in.
Johnson will serve on an interim basis, while current assistant coach, Dillon Sheppard, will retain his position. Arthur Zwane, another assistant coach, will return to his prior role in the club’s development structures.

Johnson is a seasoned coach who has worked with various clubs in South Africa.
He came under the tutelage of Ted Dumitru and started as a youth and assistant coach at clubs like Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Platinum Stars.
In 2012, he took over as the head coach at Platinum Stars, leading them to a second-place finish in the PSL during his first season.
In 2013, Johnson moved to SuperSport United, where he managed 39 matches, achieving 1.36 points per game.
His next stint was back with Platinum Stars, guiding them to third place in the league in the 2015–16 season.
He was appointed head coach of AmaZulu in August 2017 but was later dismissed in August 2019 due to poor performance. Johnson also had a short stint with Black Leopards that ended due to a string of poor performances.
Johnson holds several coaching certifications including a SAFA Level III Pro Licence, Dutch FA (KNVB) certificate, and Brazil FA Advanced Course certificate.
His preferred formation is 4-4-2.
He has a couple of club honours under his belt, including being a runner-up in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) in the 2012–13 season with Platinum Stars.
He also won the Msunduzi Cup and Kwa-Zulu Natal Premiers Cup with AmaZulu FC.
