Fans looking to join the Banyana Banyana homecoming ceremony on Tuesday can get a free ride to and from the OR Tambo International Airport, thanks to Gautrain.
Gautrain offers free rides to OR Tambo Airport
The Gauteng premium train service has opened a 90-minute window for fans to get a chance to take free rides to OR Tambo International Airport, on Tuesday morning.
Between 08:30 and 10:00, supporters can take a free Gautrain ride from Park Station, Sandton, Midrand and Pretoria Station to the Banyana Banyana homecoming ceremony.
Of course, this offer is free, but these terms and conditions apply:
- Supporters must wear an armband that they will receive from dedicated ambassadors at one of the four stations.
- To receive an armband, supporters must quote this passcode to ambassadors: ” Took Me There”.
- Ambassadors can be identified with the Gautrain-branded caps they will be wearing at the above-mentioned stations.
- Free parking at the four stations will be designated to supporters where it’s available. NOTE: Do not use bank/Gautrain cards to enter the parking, as you will be charged non-rail rates.
- To access free parking, enter the parkade and take a paper ticket. Keep it safe for use when you return from the airport.
- Only passengers with an armband will be allowed a free ride back to the four above-mentioned stations from OR Tambo Airport.
- The free ride campaign does not include Gautrain buses.
When will Banyana Banyana arrive in South Africa?
The national women’s football team, led by 2022 CAF Coach of the Year Desiree Ellis, is expected to touch down in Johannesburg at approximately 09:30 on Tuesday morning.
The squad will be welcomed by heads of the South African Football Association (SAFA) and the ministry of sports, arts and culture.
Banyana Banyana made history on Saturday, 23 July 2022, when they defeated the hosts, Morocco, 1-2 in a dramatic Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final.
This was Banyana Banyana’s sixth final in the competition and their first win.
