On Friday, the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) announced a temporary halt to its SABC Plus services, as part of a transition to a new service provider and system upgrade.
SABC Plus temporary shuts down services – Here’s why
In a statement, the public broadcaster’s Acting Group Executive of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Mmoni Seapolelo, explained that the state-owned streaming service is undergoing a temporary shutdown to facilitate a seamless transition to a new technology system.
This move is aimed at enhancing the digital content delivery for viewers, promising an improved and more robust service. The suspension, expected to last no more than 48 hours, is a critical step in implementing this technological upgrade.
During this short period of downtime, SABC Plus services will be limited, and viewers might notice changes as part of the migration process.
“Audiences will still be able to stream their favourite SABC content once the migration is complete,” Seapolelo assured.
Seapolelo further explained that post-migration, SABC Plus plans to continuously implement new features and modifications to enhance the viewer experience.
“This update underscores SABC’s dedication to continue providing audiences with an optimized and enriched SABC+ experience,” she added.
The public broadcaster assured its viewers that the interruption is temporary and necessary for the long-term benefit of the service.
SABC Plus is an over-the-top (OTT) media service platform designed to provide a comprehensive array of content, catering to a diverse range of viewer preferences.
The platform includes 19 radio stations and three free-to-air television channels: SABC 1, SABC 2, and SABC 3. In addition to these, it features the SABC Sports Channel and the SABC’s 24-hour news channel.
