Users reported issues with mobile banking, online banking, and ATM services.

According to user reports, 62% of the problems were related to mobile banking, 26% to online banking, and 12% to ATM services.

In response to the outage, Capitec Bank issued an apology to its customers, acknowledging the inconvenience caused.

The bank assured customers that they are working diligently to resolve the issue.

“We are currently experiencing nationwide service issues, affecting all services. The issue is an international issue which is affecting multiple banks and retailers. We are working hard to resolve this. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the statement read.

Recurring service disruptions raise concerns

This recent outage is not an isolated incident for Capitec Bank.

In February 2024, the bank experienced a similar disruption, leaving app users unable to log into their accounts.

Throughout 2023, Capitec faced several technical issues affecting mobile app access, online banking, and transaction capabilities, particularly around critical times such as paydays.

These recurring outages have led to growing concerns among customers about the bank’s ability to provide a stable and secure digital banking environment.
