What you can expect at the Joburg Market
Located on Heidelberg Road in the City Deep area of Johannesburg, the Joburg Market is renowned for being the largest fresh produce market in Africa by both volume and value.
Early mornings from Monday to Saturday typically see a significant increase in traffic as various stakeholders, including retailers, restaurateurs, and exporters, access the market’s extensive range of products.
The market features three main Foodhubs: the Fruit Hub, Potato & Onion Hub, and the Vegetable Hub, which collectively span 65,000 square meters.
Approximately 5,000 farmers across South Africa send their produce to this market, engaging with an average of 10,000 buyers daily through a commission system.
Notably, the market only charges a 5% commission on sales and offers additional value-adding services such as 55 cold rooms and 50 banana ripening rooms, making it a crucial node in Johannesburg’s economic landscape and a vital resource for fresh produce distribution.
