In a single tweet containing two words directed to the EFF, legendary musician Tshepo ‘Stoan’ Seate drew ire from the Red Berets.
Stoan courts backlash for ‘F-bombing’ the EFF
The Thathisgubhu rapper was on the receiving end of backlash for directing his frustration with political intolerance toward the EFF, who, on Monday, embarked on a national shutdown over President Cyril Ramaphosa‘s tenure and rampant loadshedding.
Airing out his frustration with the Red Berets’ support online, Stoan tweeted “f*** EFF”, and effectively pulled the straw that broke the camel’s back.
EFF supporters descended on the Kura uone musician, hurling derogatory slurs at him, trolling the Bongo Maffin member for his failed relationships and deflated music career.
Of course, Stoan did not let the online slander deter him from his position on the EFF. The rapper, in a video that followed the viral tweet, painted a dark picture of South Africa’s future under the stewardship of the Red Berets, warning that the country could witness a second coming of Cambodia’s Khmer Rouge, a regime notorious for the late 1970s ‘Killing Fields‘.
Bongo Maffin rapper goes in on coalition govts
Stoan also defended the ANC’s reputation of poor service delivery and insisted that coalitions are at the root of incompetence at the local government level.
“We have seen the effect [of people working at local municipalities]. National roads don’t have potholes because there’s a national government. Local governments [are coalition governments], where these guys of no principle have some kind of purchase [there],” Stoan said.
Of course, a simple glance over at the Auditor-General’s annual reports on municipality performance across the country is enough to discount Stoan’s claims.
According to the AG report for 2021/2022, 327 material irregularities that contributed to a total loss of R14.7 billion were found in municipalities’ financial statements, a majority of which are run by the ANC government.
Despite the ongoing online heckling Stoan has endured since his viral tweet, the Bongo Maffin rapper has doubled down on his view on the EFF.
Poking fun at the EFF’s uneventful shutdown, Stoan tweeted:
