However, according to information trickling from sources, as well as videos posted on social media, the inferno appeared to originate from a nearby informal settlement.
The source of the fire remains the subject of an investigation led by eThekwini emergency officials, albeit, speculation surfacing online suggests the blaze may have originated from a shack, and due to humid conditions, spread across the settlement, wiping out neighbouring informal structures.
Rescue officials had not issued a statement when this article was published.
