South African songstress Elaine was the subject of criticism for expanding her creativity toward Amapiano.
Elaine upcoming Amapiano single faces criticism
The Shine singer is preparing for another drop, this time recruiting the assistance of Focalistic for a catchy Amapiano song that remains without an official release date.
Elaine and Foca surfaced in a video clip posted on Tuesday, 11 October 2022, where the songstress, often adored for her ‘chopped n’ screwed’ slow jams, was seen bopping to a thumping locdrum.
While the unreleased single may, in all likelihood, perform well commercially, cult fans of the singer were far from impressed with the sudden genre switch.
Some of Elaine’s fans cut her slack and defended her freedom of creativity. In contrast, others saw the sudden switch as either a sign of a heartbreaking career nosedive or pressure from her record label to assimilate with the status quo.
Since the release of her first EP, Elements, Elaine rose to become one of the most prominent voices of R&B in Africa. The singer’s music was so popular she attracted the attention of Columbia Records, the label Beyoncé Knowles-Carter is signed to.
In January 2022, Elaine inked a deal with Columbia and relocated to the United States (US). Since then, however, the songstress has only released three singles.
Almost a year into her deal, Elaine has yet to surface with information on her highly anticipated debut album. The slow-paced rollout of the star, significantly exacerbated by the sudden switch to Amapiano, left fans concerned about her future.
However, the criticism may be rushed because the singer has a show at the legendary SOB’s venue in New York City later this week.
Here are some of the reactions to Elaine’s Amapiano snippet:
